Consumers in Western Europe will be splashing out over three times more shopping online by 2010 than they were in 2004, according to a forecast by the Jupiter Research company. Overall spending is expected to rise from 32.3 billion to 117 billion euros. Spending on electronic equipment is expected to grow from 6.3 billion euros in 2004 to 18.4 billion euros in 2010. Expenditure on food is expected to quadruple to 16 billion euros.

In Poland, web shopping is less popular than in Western Europe. Local retail chains such as Piotr i Paweł, Bomi, and Alma have their own online stores, but these are mainly available in big cities. There are also nationwide stores that only exist on the web, such as Frisco.pl.
