Power of Memory

The Center for contemporary Art (CSW) is staging an exhibition by Polish photographer Tomek Sikora entitled Transparent Things. 7th Edition. Birthday. 60th Edition. The name derives from this being the seventh version of an exhibition that premiered at CSW several years ago and from the fact that it marks the artist's 60th birthday. This latest exhibition enhances and adds to what is essentially an ever evolving work in progress.

Sikora has put together a collection of memories and reflections inspired by seemingly insignificant everyday items and souvenirs that have played a major role in the lives of their donors. These objects, all of which were once associated with particular people, are accompanied by commentaries, captions and drawings. Sikora has harnessed the power of photography to incorporate these objects into pictures of people to strengthen their emotional and mnemonic impact.

Transparent Things has previously been shown in several cities around Poland and elsewhere, including Bielsko-Biała, Poznań, Stockholm and Chicago after premiering at CSW.
