The British Council kicked off their international Young Fashion entrepreneur of the Year Award 2009 in early September. This annual competition is open to people aged between 25 and 35 working in the fashion industry but rewards business acumen rather than artistic talent.

The worldwide winner will be awarded the title of International Young Fashion Entrepreneur of the Year 2009, along with 7,500 pounds to spend on a project in collaboration with the British Council. The Polish finalist will be invited to international workshops in Britain to exchange ideas and experience with other IYFE finalists and network with some of the leading lights of the British fashion industry. Finalists will also be able to attend London Fashion Week and workshops run by renowned designer Sir Paul Smith.

The competition, now in its seventh year, is part of the International Young Creative Entrepreneur Awards (IYCE), a British Council initiative to recognize entrepreneurial skills in various types of creative industries. Brazil, India, Indonesia, Mexico, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Sri Lanka, Thailand and Tunisia are the other countries taking part.
