Article's tools:

The St. Petersburg Ballet Theater will perform famous ballets such as Red Giselle and The Brothers karamazov in Warsaw at the Wielki Theater/National Opera Sept. 18-21 to mark the 60th birthday of outstanding Russian choreographer Boris Eifman.

Eifman has revolutionized classical ballet, introducing his innovative style to the St. Petersburg Ballet Theater, with which he is closely associated. The Ballet Theater is renowned all over the world for its visually spectacular performances.

Warsaw theater-goers will have the opportunity to see four performances by the St. Petersburg troupe. On Sept. 18 they will stage Russian Hamlet, the story of Paul I, Catherine the Great's son, set to the music of Beethoven and Mahler. The following day will see a performance of Red Giselle, staged in memory of Olga Spessivtseva, one of the most famous ballerinas of the last century.

The Eifman birthday celebrations will continue on Sept. 20 with a special ballet gala, also performed by the St. Petersburg Ballet Theater. On the fourth and last night there will be a performance of the cult ballet The Brothers Karamazov, in which Eifman gives his interpretation of Russian writer Fyodor Dostoevsky's final novel.

Eifman takes care to ensure that his dancers are actors too and express even the minutest of details. Performances by the St. Petersburg Ballet Theater boldly combine classical ballet with modern dance and special effects.

You can see the St. Petersburg Ballet Theater perform at the Wielki Theater/National Opera, 1 Teatralny Square, Sept. 18, 19, 20 and 21. Performances are at 4 and 7 p.m. For more details visit www.teatrwielki.pl
