A Polish display entitled Polonia Hotel: The Afterlife of Buildings has won the main prize at the ongoing 11th International Architecture Biennial in Venice.

The judges granted the Golden Lion award to a group of artists linked to Warsaw's Zachęta Gallery. The artists behind the winning exhibition are Grzegorz Pi±tek, Jarosław Trybu¶, Nicolas Grospierre, and Kobas Laksa. The project comprises photographs and photomontages of six buildings erected in Poland in recent years: the University of Warsaw Library, the Metropolitan building on Piłsudskiego Square in Warsaw, the Rondo 1 high-rise on ONZ traffic circle in Warsaw, Marina Mokotów in Warsaw, the Shrine of Our Lady of Licheń in the west of the country, and Terminal 2 at Warsaw's Okęcie Airport.

A combination of "brilliance, technology and intelligence" was what the jury said about the Polish display.

The 11th International Architecture Biennial in Venice continues through Nov. 23., details at: www.labiennale.pl
