The Polish national pavilion was awarded third place at Expo 2008 Saragossa held June 14 to Sept. 14, the first time ever that Poland, as a country, has won anything at Expo.

This year's Expo theme was Water and Sustainable Development. Twenty-four of the 105 national pavilions won awards and distinctions this year and only the United Arab Emirates and Denmark did better than Poland.

The Polish pavilion was prepared by the Polish Agency for Enterprise Development and designed by Warsaw's KIPP Project architectural studio. The exterior resembled a graduation tower with brine dripping through blackthorn twigs while the futuristic interior featured uneven, sail-like walls used as screens for a variety of videos which all shared the common theme of water.
