Opening Gala at Wielki Theater
September 24, 2008
Article's tools:

The Wielki Theater-National Opera will hold a special season-opening Gala Oct. 1, coinciding with International Music Day. The double occasion will become an opportunity to introduce the main events of the coming season. This is the first such music and ballet marathon at the National Opera, where opera, ballet and theater stars will meet to deliver an evening full of excitement and surprises.

The gala program features hits of the season at the National Opera, including Faust, The Countess, Medea and The Troubadour, which the opera will subsequently stage in productions directed by Robert Wilson, Laco Adamik, Krzysztof Warlikowski and Michał Znaniecki. The gala will also remind the audiences about the regular repertoire, including Don Giovanni, The Barber of Seville, The Tales of Hoffmann and a children's version of The Magic Flute.

Superb dancers from Stockholm and Vilnius will perform excerpts from ballets which have not been shown in Warsaw so far, including Tristan with music by Richard Wagner and Anna Karenina with music by Rodion Shchedrin.

The author and director of the gala is Michał Znaniecki, the National Opera's artistic director. The conductors will include Gabriel Chmura, Evgeny Volynsky, Jan Krenz, Will Crutchfield, Krzysztof Słowiński, Tadeusz Kozłowski, Krzysztof Urbański, Krzesimir Dębski and Roberto Tolomelli. Among the performers will be theater and movie actors Krystyna Janda and Michał Bajor.
