An exhibition of photographs from the set of a new Polish film called ¦wiadectwo (Witness) about Polish-born Pope John Paul II can be seen in Cracow Town Hall until Oct. 30. ¦wiadectwo, directed by Paweł Pitera, tells the story of Pope John Paul II's life as seen through the eyes of Cardinal Stanisław Dziwisz, the former pope's secretary and friend for many years. The movie, filmed in Poland, Italy, Germany and Portugal, premieres Oct. 16 as part of events marking the 30th anniversary of the start of John Paul II's pontificate.

The new film is based on a book of the same name that was published in 2007 and is a record of conversations between Cardinal Dziwisz and Italian Vatican journalist Gian Franco svidercoschi. The film is narrated by Dziwisz and actor Michael York, known for films such as Bob Fosse's Cabaret and Franco Zefirelli's Jesus of Nazareth.

The photographs were taken by Judyta Papp, born in Cracow in 1977.
