Marcel Kasprzak, president of MIS SA, talks to Barbara Deręgowska

Your company has been on the market for more than 15 years, offering IT services to support office and business process management. What has been the main focus of your business dealings?
For quite some time we have focused on keeping the right balance between business customers and the public sector. As a result, the company has continued to expand irrespective of what happened on the market.

We are consistently expanding our range of products and services. In the past, we only supplied business process automation systems. Today we have competence and tools to describe, improve, automate and measure these processes, and provide mechanisms to enable their constant improvement. We work for large international corporations such as Coca-Cola and Żywiec Group, Polish companies, including Energia-Pro, Eurolot and Budmax, and the public administration sector. Our clients include the Ministry of Justice and numerous local governments i.e. Kobierzyce, Kro¶nice and Wrocław.

You have won many prestigious awards and have always been a step ahead of the competition. What is the secret behind your success?
It is our team. We have a unique team in MIS, who are able to achieve every possible goal. Our mission is to be a Recommended Innovation Leader. What does that mean? We are a leading supplier of solutions enhancing management efficiency. We try to make sure that our systems not only meet customer expectations but go beyond them. As a result, many customers have come to us on the recommendation of those who had started working with our company earlier. The secret of success? It is the people working for MIS. There is nothing shockingly new about it, but at MIS we have a unique team able to achieve any goal. When, after a few years of double-digit growth, we decided to double our sales in 2008 no one said, "It's impossible." We wondered together how to do that. The result is that after the first three quarters of the year our growth has reached 99 percent. And the final months of the year, which are traditionally the best time for the IT sector, are still ahead of us.

Do you use EU funds in your business?
In addition to holding the ISO 9001, 2000 and AQAP 2110:2003 quality assurance certificates, we have been authorized by the Polish Agency for Enterprise Development to carry out projects co-funded by the EU. We are ready to handle projects for which our customers have received EU funds. So far we have carried out one EU-funded project. We have launched a teleconferencing service to supplement our existing service line. We already have more than 10 clients for this service and hope to see rapid growth.

We want to launch the main EU-funded projects next year. Our plans include a large project on which we will be working with one of Wrocław's universities. The purpose is to develop an innovative communications system for a hospital in Lower Silesia.

But the most important project planned for next year is the launch of document management application software for micro and small businesses. It will be available on a subscription basis. Our goal is to keep the monthly charge per user below zl.100. I believe that thanks to this service we will remove the investment barrier which prevents smaller businesses from accessing state-of-the-art technology.

Bożena Skibicka, founder and chairwoman of the supervisory board of MIS SA, a Wrocław family company that has been in business since 1992:
We are a family business but have avoided transferring family relations directly to the company. In our operations, we have been guided by the competence and entrepreneurial spirit of our employees. It was our employees themselves who persuaded both me and my son Marcel that he should take greater responsibility for the company. Now they are saying the same about my daughter, who also works for MIS. Of course, it is not easy to hand over the helm. But my daughter told me many years ago: "Mom, trust people and you will be surprised with the results." I have been trusting my children. And the results have surprised me.

Marcel Kasprzak, 31, not married.
In 1999-2004, he studied at the wrocław University of Technology faculty of Computer science and management. In 1996 he began working at MIS SA as a programmer. In 2000 he became a project manager and was later responsible for presales. In 2006 he became sales director and in 2007 took over as the company's president.
