Friends and families Oct. 10 welcomed back a group of disabled Polish climbers who scaled Mount Kilimanjaro in Kenya in a grueling two-week expedition that tested their endurance to the limit.

They group was greeted by thunderous applause at Warsaw's Okęcie airport.

People in wheelchairs, on crutches and a blind man were among those who took part in the expedition, which was sponsored by the Mimo Wszystko foundation run by Anna Dymna, a well-known Polish actress. It was the first time a group of this kind conquered the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro, which stands 5,896 meters above sea level.

The participants and organizers wanted to show that a disability is not a prison sentence, and that despite it, anything can still be achieved.
