Article's tools:

Norwegian pianist Solveig Slettahjell is coming to Warsaw Nov. 7 to play at the Fabryka Trzciny concert and exhibition center as part of the Jazz raz po raz concert series.

Interested in music since she was a child, Slettahjell studied jazz at college where she started experimenting with country, folk, jazz standards and contemporary music by Tom Waits and Prince. In 2001, Slettahjell recorded her breakthrough album with the Slow Motion Orchestra and embarked on her journey toward a "slow jazz movement," which allows listeners to focus on the artist's voice and the meaning of her songs.

The Slow Motion Orchestra consists of Sjur Miljeteig on trumpet, Morten Quenilad on piano and keyboards, Mats Eilertsen on bass, and Per Oddvar on drums. The newest addition to the band is bassist Jo Berger Myhre.

The latest album by Slettahjell, entitled Domestic Songs, is a collection of a dozen songs the pianist recorded in her home and which she describes as 21st-century domestic music.
