The first Arthur Rubinstein Piano Festival was held in £ód¼, the great musician's home city, Oct. 10-18. The event was organized by the Arthur Rubinstein International Music Foundation with assistance from the Arthur Rubinstein Philharmonic Hall. The festival is to be held every two years aiming to pay tribute to the famous pianist and at the same time to promote the city internationally.

Performers at the festival included Emanuel Ax, Aleksander Gavrylyuk, Kirill Gerstein, Aleksander Korsantia, and Roman Rabinovich. Yulianna Avdeeva and Denis Zhdanov, the winners of the Arthur Rubinstein in Memoriam International Competition for Young Pianists in Bydgoszcz, also performed.

"I am very happy to have the approval of Rubinstein's family to use his name for the festival. It is the world's first and only festival named after him," said Wojciech Grochowalski, the festival director and organizer.

"I am in touch with both the maestro's daughters. They came to the festival and attended the concerts and accompanying events. We are going to organize the Rubinstein Piano Festival every two years: the next will most likely be in April 2010.

Along famous artists, we would also like to invite young up-and-coming pianists to help them on their artistic career," said Grochowalski.
