Agricultural attachés from the embassies of European Union member countries got together in Warsaw at the end of October to discuss the role of the Polish agricultural market in the EU. The agricultural attaché of the embassy of Croatia in Warsaw also attended the meeting, which was jointly organized by the economic mission of the French embassy.

The meeting, which was organized by Poland's Agricultural Market Agency (ARR), was also dedicated to ways of promoting foodstuffs in the modern marketplace. The meeting was an opportunity for the ARR to brief participants on its informational and promotional work on the agricultural market. Another goal of the meeting was to strengthen international cooperation and encourage the diplomatic community to exchange information about their countries' agricultural markets as well as to encourage the development of multinational food promotion programs.

The Agricultural Market Agency was established in 1990 as a means of stabilizing the agricultural market and protecting farmers' incomes. Since May 1, 2004 the ARR has been an EU payment agency, allowing it to administer selected mechanisms of the bloc's Common Agricultural Policy in Poland.

Artur £awniczak, Poland's deputy minister for agriculture, spoke about the ARR's role in the trade of agricultural goods. W³adys³aw £ukasik, the agency's president, focused on the work done by the agency in promoting Polish agricultural products abroad.

Pawe³ Zambrzycki from the agency's Food Promotion Office said the promotion of agricultural products is increasingly important in both Poland and other EU member countries. A range of mechanisms and financing means are employed in the promotion of agricultural products, Zambrzycki said.
