A ceremony was held Oct. 24 to mark the completion of building works on the new Chopin Center in Warsaw, the future headquarters of the Fryderyk Chopin Institute and other Chopin institutions. The institute's employees and invited guests attended the ceremony. Theater group Teatr Akademia Ruchu, which combines theater with visual art, gave an original performance to the accompaniment of Chopin's music. Well-known young pianist Stanisław Drzewiecki also played.

The Chopin Center is expected to be completed in spring. The Fryderyk Chopin Institute, together with its library collections, is due to move in in the second half of 2009.

The Chopin Center will house all the important institutions charged with safeguarding Chopin's heritage. It will house, besides the Fryderyk Chopin Institute and its music collections and library, the Fryderyk Chopin Society, the Foundation for the National Edition of the Works of Fryderyk Chopin and the International Federation of Chopin Societies. There are also plans for a concert-conference hall, a special tourist information center, book store and coffee shop.
