Companies in the United States will spend a total of $505 million this year on advertising using video materials on the internet, the eMarketer website predicts.

According to eMarketer, rates for this type of advertising will increase sharply until at least 2013. The rate of increase will break all records, hitting 78.9 percent in 2012, when the value of on-line commercials will reach $3.4 billion. By 2013, companies will pay for online commercials ten times the amount they will pay this year.

The trend results from a shift in the internet habits of Americans who are increasingly keen to watch video content on-line. According to eMarketer, over 50 percent do this on a regular basis and by 2012, the group will increase to 190 million, or 90 percent of internet users and 60 percent of all U.S. citizens.
