The National Radio and TV Council and the Office of Electronic Communications are planning to introduce digital terrestrial TV in Poland, thus meeting EU guidelines under which analog signal should be discontinued by 2015. In early December, the Office of Electronic Communications will announce which channels will be aired on the first digital multiplex, which is the frequency range available for digital TV.

Two or three multiplexes will be aired in the transition period between 2012 and 2014. Later, the number will rise to six. The channels of the second multiplex will be announced in mid-2009 via a tender for the division of the multiplex. The tender will be launched in early December.

The Office of Electronic Communications wants the first multiplex to include all channels currently available via analog terrestrial signal (public channels TVP1, TVP2 and TVP Info, and commercial channels Polsat, TVN, TVP Puls and TV4). In order to make this happen, the Office of Electronic Communications wants to alter frequencies reserved for the broadcasters (valid through 2014), at their request, and thus avoid another tender.
