Meet the Master: Michel Legrand

French pianist and arranger Michel Legrand, who has composed dozens of jazz standards and scores for famous films, will play a concert in Warsaw Nov. 15.

Legrand has written music for more than 200 films, musicals and TV serials. He has won many international awards, including three Academy Awards for his scores to The Thomas Crown Affair (1968), Summer of '42 (1971) and a song in Yentl (1983). In total, he has been nominated for an Oscar 13 times, and has also received five Grammies.

In 2002, Legrand released Michel Legrand by Michel Legrand, an album with masterly piano interpretations of 14 of his classic songs. His compositions such as "What Are You Doing the Rest of Your Life?," "Watch What Happens," "The Summer Knows," and "You Must Believe in Spring," to name a few, have become jazz standards frequently performed by other artists.
