Anna Karenina, a new ballet production based on the novel by Russian writer Leo Tolstoy, opens at Warsaw's Wielki Theater-National Opera Nov. 19.

The production, with music by Rodion Shchedrin, had its world premiere in 2004 in Copenhagen, Denmark. The choreography is by Alexei Ratmansky, artistic director of Moscow's Bolshoi Theater Ballet.

Anna Karenina is an aristocrat who abandons her husband and son to pursue a passionate love affair. The ballet version of the Tolstoy novel focuses on the tragic love triangle.

In the Warsaw production, the main characters are played by Marta Fiedler (Anna Karenina), Maxim Voytyul (Vronsky), and Valery Mazepchik (Karenin).
