Rafał Dutkiewicz, mayor of Wrocław, talks to Barbara Deręgowska.

A few days ago you received an Italian order in a ceremony at the Italian embassy in Warsaw. Did you expect that to happen?
Well, that's a bit of a tricky question to answer. One the one hand, I expected that because it took some time before the order could be handed over. But of course it was a nice surprise to me when I first learned about the award.

Does this mean that Italian investors will be especially welcome in Wrocław from now on?
For some time, when talking with our European partners, we have been joking that Wrocław is the northernmost Italian city. By saying so we want to stress that Wrocław is a city with temperament and a place where Italians can feel at home. The Italians who come to Wrocław invest mainly in real estate and I am very happy about that because Italian design stands out against other international trends. Wrocław is going to give priority to design because it is very much part of our focus on innovation. The Italians discovered a long time ago that a product sells better when it has attractive packaging. In terms of design we will be increasingly relying on the Italians because we want to learn from the best.
