Hybrid of Painting and Sculpture
November 19, 2008
Article's tools:

The vV Gallery of Fine Art is once again exhibiting work by talented Polish artist Anna Maria Kram. Earlier this year, the painter started working with Austrian sculptor Max Seibald and the result is Archipelago, an exhibition of items which the artists call "Picture Objects."

Kram and Seibald came to the conclusion that as three-dimensional objects, sculptures lacked grounding in space. It turns out that when sculptures interact with paintings, they paradoxically find a place of their own on a flat surface. An object without a shadow appears unreal, whereas the essence of a painting is to express shadows and show a harmony of colors. Relying on these observations, Kram and Seibald joined forces to create hybrids of painting and sculpture. The two media complement each other in the Picture Objects and even though they form a unity, they retain their individual features.

Alongside Picture Objects, the exhibition features paintings and drawings by Kram and sculptures by Seibald.
