Armored personnel carriers, displays of weapons and pea soup from the mess-these were just some of the attractions prepared by the Polish Army Nov. 10-11 in the center of Warsaw as part of independence day celebrations.

Part of the parking lot next to the de Gaulle'a traffic circle was transformed on the morning of Nov. 10 into a "control point" complete with sandbag-reinforced sentry booths and surrounded by razor-wire. The soldiers showed off their guns and other pieces of equipment. Long lines of visitors formed to get a glimpse inside a Rosomak carrier and a truck fitted with an anti-aircraft battery.
