Very Nice: Nigel Is Back
November 26, 2008
Article's tools:

British-born Nigel Kennedy, one of the world's most famous violinists, is revisiting Poland promoting his latest release, The Very Nice Album. He will give one concert in Warsaw's Stodoła Club Dec. 5.

This time, the artist will perform with the Nigel Kennedy Quintet. Its lineup includes four Polish jazz musicians-pianist Piotr Wyleżoł, saxophonist Tomasz Grzegorski, bassist Adam Kowalewski and percussionist Paweł Dobrowolski. The four also accompany Kennedy on his latest album, which includes Kennedy's original jazz compositions.

Kennedy was a child prodigy. He studied at the Yehudi Menuhin School and was the maestro's favorite student. Kennedy later studied at the Juilliard School in New York. His international career kicked off at the prestigious London Royal Festival Hall, where he performed Mendelssohn's Violin Concerto with the Philharmonia Orchestra under Riccardo Muti in 1977.

Kennedy's orchestral debut with the Berliner Philharmoniker was in 1980, and with the New York Philharmonic Orchestra in 1987. From the beginning, Kennedy has recorded for the EMI Classics label under an exclusive contract. A recording of Vivaldi's The Four Seasons in 1989 brought Kennedy worldwide acclaim. The album topped the charts in Britain for six months and sold two million copies to enter The Guinness Book of Records as the world's best selling classical album.

Stodoła Club, 10 Batorego St., Dec. 5, 8 p.m., doors open at 7 p.m.
