The 14th Conference of the Parties (COP14) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, which will be held in the western city of Poznań Dec. 1-12, is the most prestigious forum for political discussions on climate protection. It is also the largest and most important political event to take place in Poland. An estimated 8,000 participants will attend the two-week meeting: more than 190 government delegations headed by environment or climate change ministers, international, environmental, business and research institutions as well as nongovernmental organizations and media.

Beside plenary sessions and working group meetings, the program includes a number of events accompanying the conference such as debates, presentations, seminars and exhibitions. Their main aim is to draw attention to the problems of global climate change.

One of the most important accompanying events is the Technologies for Climate Protection exhibition, the first project of its kind at a COP event. The idea for this exhibition came from Prof. Maciej Nowicki, Poland's minister of the environment.

The exhibition, which will be open in Poznań Dec. 1-14, will highlight about 120 of the most important and most spectacular pieces of equipment and systems that serve to protect the climate and can be transferred to other countries. These include the latest hydrogen technologies, energy-efficient cars, and environment-friendly insulation materials.
