Some Warsaw stores and shopping malls started their winter sales in December. Price reductions reached anything up to 70 percent. There's more good news for bargain hunters-prices are bound to go down even further in January.

BLUE CITY, 179 Al. Jerozolimskie St.

Warsaw's Blue City shopping center has many surprises and special promotions in store for its customers.

Jewelry chain Apart will reduce the prices of some of its items by up to 50 percent in mid-January, while Kobe will be selling diamond jewelry 20 percent cheaper as of Jan. 2, which is good news before Valentine's Day.

Skiers will be happy to visit 4F, a store with brand-name skiing and snowboarding wear, which is offering its customers special discount vouchers and promotions at the start of the winter season.

Men who like sports-style elegance should shop at Cottonfield, where they can expect 50-percent discounts on fall clothing and 30-percent markdowns on winter wear.

Atelier Cloree, an artistic tailoring studio and boutique, offers unique outfits for any occasion for women of any age, including those who wear very large sizes, at 20-40 percent discounts.

December saw the start of price reductions on massage chairs. One professional massage chair in the Fotele Masuj±ce store has been reduced by almost zl.1,300, and now costs zl.2,990. "This is a once-in-a-lifetime bargain," says store owner Maciej Marcińczak. "We offer chairs from well-known international producers. When the euro exchange rate goes up we'll have to raise our prices."

Blue City PR Specialist Małgorzata Maier says, "You have to hurry to catch our winter bargains, because new spring collections will be launched in February."

ZŁOTE TARASY, 59 Złota St.

The stores that make up the Złote Tarasy mall in the city center have started their sales, too. Palmers and Key lingerie is being offered at discounts of up to 50 percent. Some footwear at the Adidas, Deichmann, Heavy Duty, and CCC stores is half-price. A sheepskin coat at Andy Fashion can also be had half-price in January, and the same goes for jackets and coats at Vero Moda and Stefanel. The Van Graff store offers attractive markdowns on Tommy Hilfiger and Levi Strauss pants.

Sales will continue until mid-February at Złote Tarasy, smoothly followed by the launch of this year's spring and summer collections.

SADYBA BEST MALL, 31 Powsińska St.

Sadyba Best Mall started offering huge discounts in December. Tops and sweaters that usually cost zl.159 at Esprit can be had for zl.49, and a jacket that until recently cost zl.199 is now available for just zl.69. Lingerie from Splendor, collections by Mexx, and leather wear from Fratelli Marpell are all half-price. Decorador is cutting some prices by as much as 60 percent, and Czas na Herbatę (Tea Time) by 30 percent, but only while stocks last. Body Shop is cutting 50 percent off its prices (except Hemp sets).

FACTORY, Plac Czerwca 1976 r. square

Warsaw's Factory outlet center in the district of Ursus (on Plac Czerwca 1976 r. square) offers low prices year-round, but is now having special winter sales on top of that. The prices of many brand-name collections have been reduced by up to 80 percent, which is exciting news for any bargain hunter.

Poland's largest shopping mall, Warsaw's Arkadia (82 Jana Pawła II St.), is offering discounts of up to 70 percent, mainly for clothing and footwear. Similar markdowns can be found at the Warszawa Wileńska and King Cross Praga shopping centers. In the latter mall, the Vanila store is offering down-filled winter jackets at just zl.190, down from zl.599 in December.

Other bargains in Warsaw these days include Danish furniture and interior decoration items by BoConcept. Jan. 15 will mark the start of a Design Sale at all BoConcept stores, encompassing selected items of furniture from display windows, last items from earlier collections and single items such as sofas, armchairs, tables, chairs, bookshelves, lamps, and rugs. "Prices will be reduced by up to 40 percent, which is a unique opportunity for anyone who loves simple Danish design and wants to have top-quality and excellently designed furniture in their home," says BoConcept PR manager Joanna Łozińska. Attention grabbers include designer clothes hangers by Swan that will cost just zl.38 after the sale begins.

BoConcept furniture is modular, which means it can be adapted to individual needs and expectations. "A modern urban-style look, quality workmanship and Danish design offer great appearance combined with comfort and optimum use of the space available," Łozińska says.

Small stores and boutiques all over the city are offering winter and post-season markdowns. The internet is also worth surfing for bargains, as the sale craze has not bypassed online stores. Bargains are to be had everywhere, so ready, set, go!
