Ever since it opened in Warsaw last November, the latest production of the ballet Anna Karenina has drawn crowds to the Wielki Theater-National Opera. In the coming weeks, the ballet, based on the novel by Russian writer Leo Tolstoy, will be staged Jan. 28 and Feb. 5.

The production, with music by Rodion Shchedrin, had its world premiere in 2004 in Copenhagen, Denmark. The choreography is by Alexei Ratmansky, artistic director of Moscow's Bolshoi Theater Ballet.

Anna Karenina is an aristocrat who abandons her husband and son to pursue a passionate love affair. The ballet version of the Tolstoy novel focuses on the tragic love triangle.
