The National Sporting Center (NCS) is preparing to open the second stage of tenders to build the National Stadium in Warsaw. It says the project is still running to schedule despite appeals by companies unhappy at decisions in the tender process.

Pol-Aqua and Spanish company Dragados both lodged appeals regarding the first tender stage Jan. 9. The Polish company was not happy that a Portuguese consortium made it through to the second stage.

The NCS is pressing on with its Stage 2 specifications despite the protests. The six qualifying consortiums will receive the documentation they need to start budgeting in February.

"Everything is going according to plan despite the appeals, and the April deadline for signing an agreement is looking safe," says NCS spokesman Marcin Hadaj.

The National Stadium is due to open at the end of 2011 and has to be ready for the Euro 2012 European soccer championships which Poland is hosting jointly with neighboring Ukraine.
