Polskie Ksi±¿ki Telefoniczne (Polish Telephone Directories) has completed its merger with DITEL, formerly Telekomunikacja Polska's (TP) white and yellow pages directory provider. Publications and other products from both companies will now be sold under one brand. PKT is planning to publish 6.3 million new books this year.

European Directories Holdings Sweden (EDSA), which owns PKT, agreed to purchase DITEL from TP, Poland's telecommunications giant, in December 2007. Poland's Office of Competition and Consumer Protection gave the all clear to the merger of PKT and DITEL's Polish yellow pages businesses. The agreement was signed in June last year and the two companies launched a joint advertising campaign in fall under the slogan "The strength of mutual benefit." The formal and legal requirements were finalized Dec. 31 last year and DITEL transferred its assets to PKT. "Thanks to our joining forces we can strive to acquire a greater market share of the yellow pages industry," says Piotr Strza³kowski, chairman of PKT and DITEL.

PKT is Poland's largest publisher of telephone directories with 53 percent of the market. The company has nearly 10 million customers for its hardcopy products, a million CD customers and 3.5 million online customers. PKT has been operating on the Polish yellow pages market since 1993. The company has been a wholly-owned subsidiary of EDSA, one of Europe's top five yellow pages providers, since June 2007.

The Yellow Pages are directories containing listings of organizations offering goods and services. They take their name from the yellow paper they are printed on. The White Pages are directories containing listings of individual subscribers. PKT offers both products and is the only company to offer TP subscriber listings.
