An opera night Feb. 14 at the Wielki Theater will feature Polish premiere performances of two pieces: Verbum nobile by Stanisław Moniuszko and Przysięga (Le Serment) by Alexandre Tansman with a libretto based on Balzac.

Verbum nobile is a traditional Polish genre piece in which Moniuszko conveyed an ironic picture of the Polish nobility.

The opera Le Serment by Tansman, a Polish composer who worked in France for many years, was first performed on stage in Paris in 1954, conducted by André Cluytens. Despite its form of a chamber piece, it stands out for its dramatic power. The libretto was based on Le Serment, a well-known novel by Balzac.

Feb. 14, 7 p.m., Wielki Theater-National Opera, 1 Teatralny Sq., tickets zl.15-120, www.teatrwielki.pl, www.ebilet.pl
