The Zachęta National Gallery of Art in Warsaw is hosting an exhibition dedicated to Jerzy Grotowski, an outstanding Polish theater director, art theoretician and drama tutor who died in 1999.

The exhibition, entitled Performer, offers glimpses of Grotowski's creative pursuits, including documentaries of rehearsals, performances and conversations with the artist. One of the aims is to show how Grotowski worked with actors to teach them new ways of expressing themselves on stage.

The exhibition also features works by artists who shared Grotowski's inspirations and approach to art and life. These include Marina Abramovic, Vito Acconci, Günter Brus, Lygia Clark, Roman Dziadkiewicz, Joan Jonas, Otto Muehl, Bruce Nauman, Hermann Nitsch, Gina Pane, Carolee Schneemann, Rudolf Schwarzkogler, Grzegorz Sztwiertnia, Zbigniew Warpechowski, and Hannah Wilke.

Zachęta National Gallery of Art, 3 Małachowskiego Sq., tel. 0-22 827-58-54, until March 25
