Keeping the Momentum

Article's tools:

The Association for the Promotion of Lower Silesia aims to build a sense of community among the residents of Poland's southwestern Lower Silesia region. We are a non-profit organization that has held the annual Lower Silesian Local Government Forum since 1999.

Local politicians change, while problems remain. We are interested in the future rather than the past. Every year, the meeting in Kudowa Zdrój brings together 300 decision makers and local government leaders from the Lower Silesia region. This is the only such initiative in Poland to have survived for so many years.

At this year's Forum, the 10th to date, we will try to sum up the five years since our region became part of the European Union. This has truly been a period of prosperity for Lower Silesia, marked by the opening of borders, economic growth exceeding 10 percent per year, burgeoning foreign direct investment, and an incredible development of the local real estate market. This momentum is well worth keeping. Lower Silesia has become a leading region in Poland, and Wrocław is a leading Polish city. However, we are aware that both Poland and Lower Silesia still have a long way to go before they manage to bridge the gap that separates them from Europe's wealthiest nations and regions.
