The Dominium restaurant chain opened its first Chinese eatery in Poland Feb. 4. The Kanton restaurant is situated at 9 Złota St. in Warsaw and can seat 50 guests at a time.

"We did market research and found out that Warsaw needed a place combining a snack bar and a restaurant where you could have a Chinese meal at a low price," said Dominium chief Tomasz Plebaniak.

Wei Chen, the chef at Kanton, and his assistants all hail from China and learned their craft in the Far East. The menu features over 60 dishes, including main courses such as sizzling Sichuan-style prawns with vegetables, bamboo and spicy shiitake mushrooms (zl.38,90), sizzling pork with eggplant and garlic sauce (zl.25.90) and bamboo with shiitake mushrooms stewed in soy sauce and served with jasmine rice (zl.23.90). For dessert, you can try banana fried in pastry with honey (zl.8) or lychee fruits with oriental sorbet (zl.11.90).

Another Kanton restaurant will open in Warsaw in March. There are plans to develop Kanton into a nationwide chain, along the lines of Dominium Pizza.
