Neurotic, Ravishing, Unsettling
March 4, 2009
Article's tools:

The Center for Contemporary Art (CSW) at the Ujazdowski Castle in Warsaw is hosting Mroczne przejście (Dark Passage), an exhibition of photography by Basia Sokołowska. Her intimate, unusually emotional and beautiful photographs are only familiar to a small circle of viewers. The exhibition features a series of her latest photographs accompanied by a book which reviews and puts her previous work into context. Art critics describe her work as feminine, neurotic, ravishing and unsettling.

The exhibition takes the viewer to an English garden, and into a tunnel of overgrown rhododendrons. The photographs, drawings and notes lead the visitor through a dark, humid and unfamiliar place reminiscent of the inside of an enormous organism.

Until March 29, Center for Contemporary Art, Ujazdowski Castle, Wejście Gallery, 2 Jazdów St.
