Romeo and Juliet Updated
March 4, 2009
Article's tools:

The Studio Buffo Music Theater is March 9, 10 and 11 again staging one of the most popular shows in its repertoire, the musical Romeo and Juliet, adapted from the Shakespeare play.

The Buffo is addressing young audiences with a modified, updated version of the famous tragic romance. Janusz Józefowicz directed the performance and provided the choreography and libretto. Janusz Stokłosa wrote original music. The show's young, debuting actors were selected from thousands of hopefuls.

The musical aims to portray conflicts between generations, the traps lying in wait for young people, and the moral corruption and rate race of the adult world.

The libretto draws on strong, juvenile slang. The show is produced with flair. It boasts motorcycle stunts, real showers, lasers and fireworks.

The musical had its preview at Warsaw's Hala Widowiskowa Torwar arena in 2004. It's been running ever since, attracting a cult following.
