Isobe Mieko, a traditional Japanese music and dance group, will perform March 26 and 27 at Warsaw's Wielki Theater/National Opera.

The group is named after Isobe Mieko, a superb instrumentalist and a virtuoso of the koto, a traditional 13-stringed Japanese zither. Mieko studied performance on traditional instruments under Prof. Yamakawa Yosiko, a famous Japanese koto expert. With a professor's certificate herself, Mieko founded the Kineikai Association for education in koto music.

The March performances are the second time Isobe Mieko is coming to the Wielki Theater. The first time round was in 2004. Five years ago, the musicians gave a performance of Samurai dance and musical works. The Warsaw concert will mark 90 years since Japan established diplomatic relations with Poland.
