Don Quixote Takes On the Circus

Berlin-based choreographer Beate Vollack has created a new interpretation of Don Quixote at the Wroc³aw Opera.

Departing from the original plot, she has enriched the production with circus humor and dazzling color.

When you watch the opera, with music by Ludwig Minkus, be sure to have your eyes wide open to take in the motion, colors and gestures, because it is really hard to notice all the goings-on during group scenes.

The title character, an idealist, is on a quest to save the world and protect circus performers from danger. He thus kills a charmer's snake and "rescues" the female assistant of a knife thrower. His disastrous doings cause a lot of damage and chaos.

The main role is played by German actor Thorsten Krohn. The show would be incomplete without forbidden love and so there is a couple of lovers played by Iana Saleno and Rajner Krenstetter, soloists from the Staatsballet Berlin.
