Hot New Art
April 8, 2009
Article's tools:

The Ujazdowski Castle Center for Contemporary Art (CSW) in Warsaw has teamed up with the Raster Gallery to stage an exhibition of work by Zbigniew Rogalski, one of the hottest and most recognizable names in new Polish art.

The CSW staged Rogalski's debut exhibition in 2000. The artist has produced most of the displayed work especially for the new exhibition, but there are also two canvases from the previously exhibited Closer/Bliżej series. On show are monumental, monochromatic pictures that zoom in on the faces of people lying on the ground. The faces are divided into two images, giving the impression that the viewer is looking at them from the same point first with the left eye and then the right.

Rogalski paints figurative pictures, but he also employs photography and video. His paintings are modern and he is keen to make use of the esthetics of photography and photographic stills. He also combines layers as in film editing. Rogalski uses traditional painting technique-oil on canvas. Sold at prestigious art fairs in Miami, Florida, Paris, Vienna and Basel, Rogalski's pieces makes their way to art collections in Europe and America.
