Icing on the Vanity Cake
April 8, 2009
Article's tools:

The HOarT Studio and Warsaw's Jazzownia Liberalna have teamed up to stage an exhibition featuring a series of paintings entitled Icing by Agnieszka Bartak-Lisikiewicz. The colorful, sweet and clean pictures glow with bright colors. They feature imprints of human bodies which Bartak-Lisikiewicz transforms into esthetic shapes. They record the freshness, sweetness and beauty of the human body yet at the same time, they are disconcertingly irregular and indefinable. The paintings prompt reflections on the ephemeral nature of physical beauty and life.

Agnieszka Bartak-Lisikiewicz, 28, obtained a degree in 2007 at the Painting Department of the Fine Arts Academy in Cracow. Since September 2007, she has been pursuing Ph.D. studies at the Fine Arts Academy, working on a thesis on the role of beauty in vanitas themes in art. Bartak-Lisikiewicz has also undertaken a scholarship at the Ecole Nationale Superieure des Arts Decoratifs in Paris.

Until June 5, Jazzownia Liberalna
Old Town Square, 1/3 Jezuicka St.
