Finnish band Apocalyptica, made up of three cellists and a drummer, is tuning up to perform at Warsaw's Stodoła club April 16. The musicians play what is known as cello rock, or a combination of classical music and heavy metal.

Apocalyptica's original lineup consisted of four cellists who graduated from the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki. Their first recordings were interpretations of numbers by American heavy metal band Metallica, but Apocalyptica then went on to release their own compositions. They have released more than a dozen albums to date. Apart from Metallica tracks, they also perform cover songs by the likes of Pantera, Rammstein, Sepultura, Slayer, and Faith No More.

The April gig is another Polish concert for Apocalyptica, who previously played at the Progresja club in Warsaw in 2007. This time, the musicians are on a tour of Eastern Europe playing some of their most popular tracks.
