Garrigues Portugal in Poland
April 29, 2009
Article's tools:

Garrigues Portugal, a subsidiary of the largest tax and legal services provider on the Iberian Peninsula, is launching operations in Poland. The move is part of an international strategy concentrating on expansion across Central and East Europe markets. The company will become the first Portuguese legal advisory firm in Poland with two permanent Portuguese lawyers: Miguel Marques do Santos, a partner, and Gonc‚alo de Almeida Costa, a senior lawyer.

Although Garrigues Portugal operates in Portugal as an independent Garrigues’ partnership law firm, it is due to become a part of the Garrigues team in Poland and act as “Portuguese desk” within the organization.

“The opening of the Garrigues ‘Portuguese desk’ and arrival of Portuguese partners to Poland is a response to the needs of a market where the Portuguese business community has grown to a considerable size,” said Jaimé Fuster, managing partner of Garrigues Polska.

“We are delighted to offer our expertise directly on the local market—a country which has become a center of the Central and East Europe growth for our legal firm for the near future .”

Garrigues Portugal has two offices, in Lisbon and Porto, and works with a wide variety of clients, including multinational and locally listed companies, mid-market companies and large private entities. With two tax partners and 26 tax practitioners, the firm has an outstanding reputation in banking and insurance.

The new team at Garrigues Polska will complement the portfolio of services offered by the Spanish legal firm in Poland, specializing in real estate, labor law, mergers and acquisitions and corporate law, consumer and competition law, public- private partnership and renewable energy.
