Jan Garbarek, one of the world’s most respected saxophonists, will perform in Warsaw May 6. His concert will have an unusual setting—St. John the Baptist’s Cathedral in Warsaw’s Old Town, one of the oldest churches in the city.

Appearing with the British vocal quartet The Hilliard Ensemble, Garbarek will play several improvisations accompanying the group’s vocal performance, employing the saxophone as if it were an extra voice.

Garbarek is famous for his bold approach to experimentation.

The Hilliard Ensemble comprises David James (countertenor), Rogers Covey-Crump (tenor), John Potter (tenor) and Gordon Jones (baritone). The quartet was formed 35 years ago. They have released two albums together with Garbarek, Officium (1994) and Mnemosyne (1999), on which Garbarek improvises with the singers, his instrument acting as a fifth voice.

May 6, St. John the Baptist’s Cathedral, 8 ¦więtojańska St., 9 p.m.

Tickets: zl.170, zl.110 and zl.75, available from www.estrada.com.pl
