The Merry Widow, an operetta by Hungarian composer Ferenc Lehár, will be performed at the Kongresowa Hall June 1 by artists from the Operetka Mazovian Music Theater in Warsaw. The show is directed by Andrzej Strzelecki.

The Merry Widow was staged for the first time in 1905 in Vienna and became an instant success for Lehár. It made him famous and gave him the financial means to devote himself entirely to writing music.

The operetta tells the story of a young woman who marries a wealthy banker and inherits his fortune when he dies a few days after the wedding.

The production directed by Strzelecki features a number of colorful ballet scenes. The performers include top Polish vocalists and well-known actors such as Krzysztof Tyniec and Bohdan Łazuka.
