Ten major groups and a total of 1,311 candidates are running for Poland's second European Parliament election, scheduled for June 7.

The main groups in the election race are the rightist Union for Realpolitik (UPR); the Polish People's Party (PSL), the junior partner in the ruling coalition; the Samoobrona radical farmers' party; the leftist Polish Labor Party (PPP); the Euroskeptic Libertas Committee; the electoral alliance of the Democratic Left Alliance (SLD) and the Labor Union (UP); the Center-Left Alliance for the Future party; the Right Wing of Poland (PR); the ruling Civic Platform (PO) party; and Law and Justice (PiS), the largest opposition party.

Meanwhile, the National Election Commission provided the latest statistical data about the election. The commission's chairman, Ferdynand Rymarz, said the number of Polish voters registered for the election was 30,446,276. Additionally, 313 nationals of other European countries who want to vote in Poland have been entered into the election register at their own request, Rymarz said.

The total number of those officially running for Eurodeputy is 1,311, which means that 26 hopefuls are competing for every seat. Among those in the race are 79 members of the lower house of Poland's parliament, seven senators, and 38 individuals who are now Polish MEPs.

Women account for 24 percent of all those running. The average age of the candidates is 45. The youngest hopeful is 21, the oldest is 81.
