The Elephant House at Poznań zoo was officially opened April 24 by the city's mayor, Ryszard Grobelny. The enclosure is home to two elephants, 10-year-old Ninio and five-year-old Yzik. In the future, the zoo plans to have four females with calves and an adult male in the enclosure.

The Elephant House was financed by the Poznań city authorities. Construction and furnishings cost a total of zl.38 million, of which zl.18 million came from European Union funds. It took five years to complete the project.
