Warsaw Gets a New Cake
The City of Warsaw has announced the winner of a competition to produce a new Warsaw cake. The name chosen for the delicacy is Zygmuntówka, after Polish king Sigismund III Vasa, whose column on Zamkowy Square is one of the city's most famous landmarks. The king moved Poland's capital from Cracow to Warsaw in 1596.

The winning cake is made of an almond mixture, cranberry conserve, chocolate mousse and meringue. The cake was created by Witold Teledziński's Nova cake shop. More than 18 cake shops in Warsaw entered the competition to come up with a new recipe, and additionally more than 650 internet users proposed a name for the cake. In the end, the name, thought up by Witold Żyła from Warsaw, was picked, based on the largest number of votes. Copyright for the recipe and name was transferred to the competition organizers and can be used by other cake shops on condition that they maintain the same quality and keep to the original recipe.
