Miros豉w Milewski, Mayor of P這ck talks to Zofia Zosie雟ka.

P這ck is a city where modernity is interwoven with history. Which is more important to you?
We, as local residents, are proud of P這ck's history. We remember that in the Middle Ages P這ck was Poland's official capital, and later the capital of the Duchy of Mazovia. In each one of us today, there lives a fragment of the history that our ancestors created. Marshal J霩ef Pi連udski had good reason to present the city with the Cross of Valor for the residents' exceptional bravery during the 1920 war [against the Bolsheviks]. The P這ck residents of that time also remembered their heritage. Many historic sites have survived as testimony of the city's oldest history, to mention the extraordinary Cathedral Basilica, Gothic buildings, Art Nouveau tenement houses and other attractions that you really have to see for yourself.

In today's P這ck, a very important role is played by the priorities of the city's current development. Every company operating here represents valuable modern thinking: innovative production technologies and management that respond to the challenges of our times while showing concern for the environment.

Is P這ck really a city of contrasts?
If you look at our history and present day, then yes. But P這ck is definitely an investor-friendly city. We have put in a lot of time and effort to prepare for incoming business. The effectiveness of these preparations is proved, for example, by the Wis豉 shopping mall built with foreign capital and three more shopping centers under construction. Clearly, investors see huge potential in this city. We definitely have that potential.

Does the city have land prepared for investors?
The largest area prepared with investors' needs in mind can be found in the P這ck Industry and Technology Park (PPPT). Anyone interested can start a business in a special economic zone. Not all of the PPPT is part of the zone because not everyone finds this profitable. We have a further several dozen hectares for business investment on the city outskirts. We are also prepared for investors seeking to build hotels, shopping centers and entertainment facilities. We are open to any kind of business. At present talks are in progress with about 80 prospective investors. There is no need to fear bureaucracy. The Investor Assistance Center will always work with investors to make sure that formal issues cause as little hassle as possible.

P這ck lies on Poland's largest river. How does the city intend to take advantage of its location on the Vistula?
We have started work on developing the riverside. A marina is planned there, with mooring spaces and a restaurant. The building of the P這ck Rowing Society is undergoing thorough renovation. During work on new space at the zoo, an extra entrance will be opened from the Vistula side. A training/teaching center will be built on the Sob鏒ka artificial lake. We already have a beautiful developed beach there. Many recreational facilities will be available free of charge.

You have been elected mayor of P這ck for the second time. What do you think this says about you?
I think it is the result of P這ck residents' trust in me, for which I am very grateful. In truth, though, this is a question for the inhabitants of our city.
