The Natural Resources of Polish Design exhibition in Stalowa Wola aims to show how folk techniques and motifs influence new Polish design, decorative arts and architecture. The exhibition is an attempt to collect in one place and time works inspired by folk art.

A return to roots and to traditional techniques has been a strong trend in the past decade, and not only in Poland. This exhibition is about the search for identity, distinctiveness, about a return to things local and regional in an age of globalization and mass media. Traditional themes of Polish decorative art give Polish design a unique character, while local materials and crafts say a great deal about Polish tradition. They give Polish design its own identity and meaning, at the same time remaining in the mainstream of European design. Proof of this can be found in the international awards won by some of the works featured in the exhibition.

On display are products made industrially as well as unique items or prototypes, designs by young artists displayed next to the bestsellers of Polish design.

The exhibition shows several dozen works on loan from private collections and museums, including rugs by MOHO, Joanna Rusin and Agnieszka Czop, lamps by DBWT, Tomek Rygalik, Agnieszka Lasota and Vis a Vis, architectural designs for the Polish pavilion at Expo 2010, and designs by Gogo, Malafor, Poor Design, Beton and many more.

The curator is Agnieszka Jacobson-Cielecka, an expert on the latest Polish and European design, founder and long-time editor-in-chief of the Polish edition of Elle Decoration.

Regional Museum in Stalowa Wola, 1 Sandomierska St., through July 31
