Passion for Handbags
June 17, 2009
Article's tools:

The Wielki Theater/National Opera is hosting an unusual exhibition entitled A History of Elegance-Handbags at the Opera. It features several dozen unique handbags from the private collection of Dorota Wróblewska, the owner of Warsaw's Forget-me-not fashion label, as well as the Sosenków family collection in Cracow. The handbags on show, for the day, evening or theater outings, belong to diverse stylistic periods of the 19th and 20th centuries such as Empire, Biedermeier or Art Deco.

Each handbag is signed and possesses its own history. Rare specimens by companies such as Whiting & Davis, Howard Heartsfield, Joyce Morgan, Leslie Holm and Mandalian are well preserved. They originate from different countries: France, Britain, Austria and the United States. Each is unique, handmade, original in design and decorated with precious and semiprecious stones. They were made with various techniques and materials.

The exhibition is open until June 19 in the Wielki Theater's Redutowa Hall. It will also be on show during the Warsaw Fashion Street event June 28.
