Servier is the largest independent French pharmaceutical company, established in 1954 by Jacques Servier, a doctor of medicine and pharmaceutics. The company has operations in 140 countries around the world and employs almost 20,000 people, including over 3,000 in research and development. More than 25 percent of Servier's turnover is invested in research and development. Servier first appeared on the Polish market in 1992. Today Servier Polska employs almost 500.

Scientific research
The Servier Research Group has been conducting research in Poland since 1992. At first this was coordinated from France, but as this business developed and the number of projects grew, in 1999 the company set up the Polish department of the International Clinical Research Center in Central and Eastern Europe and two years later transformed it into a separate International Clinical Research Center in Poland.

Investment in Poland
In 1997 the Servier Research Group acquired a controlling stake in Poland's Anpharm SA pharmaceutical company. Thanks to an efficient transfer of advanced technology, Servier pharmaceuticals began to be manufactured in Poland just a year later. These significant investments led to a rapid increase of production capacity from 4 to 40 million packets of medication per year, while employment almost doubled. In 2001-2002 all the premises, machinery and quality assurance systems were adapted to meet European Union requirements. This effort resulted in a Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) Certificate in 2003 and its re-issue to the company in 2006 by the General Pharmaceutical Inspectorate.

Many of Servier's pharmaceuticals for the Polish market are manufactured by Anpharm SA.

The modern Servier Distribution Center opened in 2000. All Servier pharmaceuticals are made in accordance with GMP standards and distributed in compliance with Good Distribution Practice (GDP) principles which guarantee the highest quality. An administration and office complex was opened at Anpharm SA in 2003. Two years later, Servier Polska opened its Warsaw head office.

Educational activities
Servier has been actively educating patients for many years in the prevention of chronic diseases. To this aim, a total of 50,000 patients have been examined in a program of free nationwide preventive and educational campaigns organized since 2003 under the joint name "Servier Cares for Your Health."

In 2003, the company launched its regular campaign called "Servier for the Heart," dealing with prevention of and education about heart disease. "Servier- Your Friend Against Diabetes" is a campaign now running for four years, aimed at educating people about the risk factors of type-2 diabetes and the dangers and problems linked to late diagnosis of the disease. The idea behind another campaign, "Servier Cares for Your Veins," is to spread awareness of the risk factors and complications of chronic venous disease. The "Forum Against depression," on the other hand, is a project undertaken in association with the Itaka Foundation aimed at convincing Poles that depression is an illness that can be effectively treated.

The Servier Research Group has also actively contributed to the development of medical education by awarding research grants, organizing conferences and training workshops, and publishing and distributing scientific publications. Servier supports and organizes conferences, symposia and workshops for doctors and pharmacists in selected fields.
