Collecting Pieces of Daily Life

Article's tools:

A monographic exhibition of the work of Jadwiga Maziarska (1913-2003) is on at the Center for Contemporary Art in Ujazdowski Castle in Warsaw.

The artist incorporated into her canvases ready-made and non-painterly materials such as wax, plaster, gravel, wood and bags. She collected clippings and reproductions from newspapers, textbooks and coffee-table books from the 1940s to 1990s and used them for the designs of her paintings.

Two outstanding Polish contemporary artists, Zofia Kulik and Józef Robakowski, have contributed special works to the exhibition. They serve as comments on Maziarska's work.
