Blockbusters in the Open Air
Vacationers in the popular resorts of Zakopane and Sopot can catch some of the biggest movies of the past few years on an outdoor screen.
As part of the Orange Kino Letnie (Summer Cinema) project, which runs between July 1 and the end of August, films are also being shown on a train running between the two towns.
The pier in the Baltic coastal resort of Sopot, the longest in Poland, and Krupówki Street in Zakopane, one of the best-known Polish promenades, turn into unusual movie theaters in the evenings, with traditional movie theater chairs replaced by deckchairs and rustic-style benches. Viewers watch films on huge, inflated screens. The titles on offer include Vicky Cristina Barcelona, Slumdog Millionaire and Coco Chanel. The daily screenings on the Sopot pier and Krupówki can be seen by over 500 viewers each, and admission is always free.
As part of the project, PKP Intercity has launched a special train linking Sopot and Zakopane with a traveling movie theater inside. No bookings are necessary for seats in the movie wagon and a ticket for the train will get you admitted to this unusual movie theater.
